Introduction

Welcome to our SEND Information Report which is part of Durham County Council’s Local Offer for children and young people with Special Educational Needs.

At Acre Rigg Infant School, we are committed to the equal inclusion of all pupils in all areas of school life. We recognise the diverse and individual needs of all of our pupils and take into account the additional support required by those children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

The information that must be included in our SEND Information Report can be found at the bottom of this page.  We will continue to add information on the website and welcome your feedback.

Our Ethos

At Acre Rigg Infant School we are committed to equality.We are committed to providing an education that includes and stimulates all children regardless of their background or personal circumstances. We have pupils with a wide range of abilities and different needs and endeavour to include them in all activities, providing them with the opportunity to fulfil their full potential. We recognise that some pupils will need extra support and adaptations to access the school curriculum and to participate in school activities.

We aim to:

  • Include and value the contribution of all families to our understanding of equality and diversity.
  • Ensure that all pupils have access to the school curriculum and all school activities.
  • Work in partnership with parents, pupils and relevant external agencies in order to provide for children’s special educational needs.
  • Identify at the earliest opportunity, all children that need additional support (whether these are educational, social, physical or emotional)
  • Give every child the entitlement to a sense of achievement.
  • Regularly review the policy and practice in order to achieve best practice.

Acre Rigg Infant School has a dedicated Special Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO).

The role supports all families in the transition for all SEN pupils working closely with multi-agencies and partnerships to ensure that their learning journey is a happy and successful one.  

SEN Admissions

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

Normal admissions procedures apply, however where a Special Educational Need or Disability is identified the school would work with parents/carers and other agencies involved to ensure that appropriate provision could be provided.
